Meet The Staff: Sean Farnan

In our Meet the Staff series we introduce you to the fantastic employees that make The Job Shop function. This week we meet Sean Farnan. Sean is a jack of all trades and dedicated problem solver, stepping in to fill whatever role The Job Shop needs him in.

Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop?
A: I’m Sean, and I’ve been at The Job Shop since 1999 (with the exception of a very long sabbatical a few years ago).

Q: What do you do at the Job Shop?
A: A little of almost everything except recruiting: online marketing, office management, technical support, job posting, assistance with payroll and invoicing, a little (accounts payable) and (accounts receivable), electronic newsletters for our clients. In short, a healthy list of responsibilities.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it?
A: I enjoy communicating to our clients and candidates the custom placement aspect of The Job Shop – I feel that the personalized service here is unique and enticing in an industry that can be largely impersonal and cookie-cutter in its approach. Every client and candidate likes to feel special, and at The Job Shop, they are.

Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests?
A: Counting down the days until the return of “Game of Thrones”, of course!

Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop?
A: So many “tmi” moments – we deal with the public and a lot of people overshare, but it’s harmless and usually ends up being pretty entertaining.

Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
A: Getting out to all the unique neighborhoods in San Francisco, and venturing outside the city to areas I haven’t visited before. There’s always something new to try or experience in the Bay Area.

Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
A: I’m also a DJ every weekend at one of the busiest clubs in the Castro.

Q: Anything else you’d like people to know?
A: I love living and working in the epicenter of technological developments that affect how the entire planet lives and works.
