Meet the Staff: Tamara Doss

In our Meet the Staff series we introduce you to the fantastic employees that make The Job Shop function. This week we meet Tamara Doss, The Job Shop’s one woman HR and accounting department, and learn what makes her tick.

Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop?
A: I’m Tamara Doss, Mom to four, Grandmother to seven, Wife to one.

I’ve worked for the Job Shop since 1999.

Q: What do you do at the Job Shop?
A: Accounting, Payroll, HR and Benefits, etc. I have several “hats”

Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it?
A: Flexibility.  I work part-time and my colleagues are understanding and great.  My greatest reward is being part of the Job Shop for so long!

Q: What do you look for in an ideal candidate (if applicable)?
A: Not my job….haha!  But a good candidate needs great communication skills, good organization skills and they need to know their own strengths.

Q: What are some common mistakes candidates make?
A:Not following the simple rules. Incorrect dates, spelling, times, dress codes, researching corporate cultures.

Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests?
A: Entertaining family and friends, traveling, eating out at new restaurants, and playing with the best dog in the world, “Tucker”, our mini-schnauzer.

Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop?
A:Yes and they will be kept to myself.  Always love holiday get togethers!!

Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
A: Tim – my husband of 30 years.

Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
A: I am a pretty good gardener.

Q: Anything else you’d like people to know?
A:  I’m over 50, I’m happy, I have lots of fun friends,  I like to plan parties, I am crazy in love with my grandchildren, I drive a 2001 VW bug named Bee.
