UBIBasic Income Create-a-Thon

Brigade, San Francisco

7 PM, All Ages

Free

The Event:

The movement for a Universal Basic Income in the United States is growing. More and more people are realizing the importance of upgrading our economic model and are beginning to connect with others who share their views. While awareness amongst the general population is still limited, it’s quickly increasing, and Basic Income could become a mainstream idea in the very near future.

To this end, we are organizing the first ever Basic Income “Create-A-Thon” in San Francisco, California over the weekend of November 13. Writers, artists, videographers, developers, musicians, and others will come together to create content and media around the theme of a Universal Basic Income in the United States. The more creative and powerful material we produce, the easier it will be to spread awareness and convince people of the importance of this idea.

The ideas for Create-A-Thon projects will come from you: the participants. Got an idea for a compelling video, an engaging web application, or a cool art project? Share it with others on our website: http://www.universalincome.org! And check out the ideas that others have submitted, to see if you’d like to join them in making it happen.

Schedule:

Friday evening of the Create-A-Thon will be spent brainstorming ideas and forming projects groups. All day Saturday and Sunday morning will be spent working on these projects, and the creations will be shared with others on Sunday afternoon.

FAQ

Why Universal Basic Income?

The economy we live in today is no longer working for most Americans. Improvements in technology are disrupting the traditional work model and automating more and more existing jobs. As this trend continues, inequality is increasing, and will ultimately lead to wide-scale unemployment in the United States. If our society is going to survive, we need a radical change.

The long-term goal of a Universal Basic Income is to create income sufficient to cover basic needs, given directly to individuals, universally and unconditionally. It aims to abolish poverty, eliminate complicated bureaucracy, and grant economic security in an age of increasing workplace automation. Achieving this would free individuals to engage in work of their own choice.

What should I bring to the event?

Bring all the tools you need to be creative! Your computer (wifi will be provided), drawing materials, etc. Food and drinks will be provided

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

You can email questions@universalincome.org if you have any questions.
