Friday, June 10

Summer Concert: Menlo College

Menlo College, Atherton

5 PM, All Ages


The 2016 Entrepreneurial Summer Concert series showcases four nights of live music and closes with an a cappella concert featuring groups from Facebook, Google, Airbnb, Pinterest, Twitter, and a group of IP attorneys.

Each concert includes food trucks, fun giveaways, free beer, water, wine and more. Parking is limited; please arrive early, carpool, rideshare, or ride your bike.

Free, but RSVP to automatically be entered to win some fantastic prizes (you must be present to win).

Civic Center, San Francisco

6 PM, All Ages


Friday’s Game Four of the NBA Finals will be publicly broadcast live on a jumbotron screen in Civic Center Plaza in front of San Francisco City Hall for families and fans to gather and cheer on the Golden State Warriors against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Warriors lead against Cavaliers 2-1.

Game Four will be played in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena with tip off at 6 pm Pacific Time.

The event will feature Off the Grid food trucks and activities for the entire family including basketball games for youth, free throw contests and pickup games, and Warriors-themed art projects. In keeping with the event focus on families, alcohol will not be sold or permitted on Civic Center Plaza during the broadcast.

In a show of civic pride as the Warriors continue their run in the best-of-seven series for the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy, the Warriors flag will continue to fly over City Hall. City Hall, Coit Tower and SFO will remain lit in Warriors colors for the duration of the NBA Finals.

Please Note: This is an alcohol-free event. The San Francisco Police and Recreation and Park Departments will be on hand to monitor and enforce a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and other controlled substances in Civic Center Plaza.

Those attending the broadcast are encouraged to come early to secure a spot and take public transportation via MUNI or BART to Civic Center or Van Ness stations.


Saturday, June 11

62nd Annual North Beach Festival

North Beach District, San Francisco

This is a Free Festival.  There is No Admission Charge.

In its 62nd year, The North Beach Festival is considered one of the country’s original outdoor Festivals.

The event is situated in the historic North Beach District, known to locals and visitors alike as San Francisco’s Little Italy and the home of the famed beat generation. The Festival site includes numerous quaint streets in the heart of the district including Grant Avenue and Columbus Avenue.

The 2016 event will feature over 125 arts and crafts booths, gourmet food booths, two stages of live entertainment, Italian street painting, beverage gardens, kid’s chalk art area and the blessing of the animals.

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to participate in this San Francisco tradition which is known nationally and internationally.

Blessing of the Animals:

The animal blessing at The National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi (610 Vallejo Street) will take place from 2:00 – 3:00 both days during the festival.

Kids’ Chalk Art Area:

Let your kids’ creativity shine in North Beach and buy a square and street chalk at our kids chalk art area on Vallejo St. between Grant Ave. & Columbus from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM both days.

2016 Grillin’ in the ‘Mo

Hamilton Recreation Center, San Francisco

What:  Fillmore Slim and Big Cat Tolefree will headline this year’s Grillin’ in the ‘Mo at Hamilton Recreation Center on June 11th. Tia Carroll will open this free blues concert and local talent will also be showcased. The annual Fillmore Summer Fest Kick-Off is a free blues concert and family BBQ celebrating the start of summer events in the Fillmore District and summer enrichment programs for Western Addition youth.   Bring your family, a big appetite, a blanket and prepare yourself for a day of community connectedness.   Grab some food, make tie-dyed t-shirts or make gigantic bubbles and enjoy some down home blues. Soulful hits will be spinning all day by DJ, Mr. “C”. Join our seniors with some line dancing, while the kids enjoy youth activities in our kid’s zone, i.e. face painting, cotton candy, jumpers, & bubbles. Grillin in the ‘Mo is our Summer Fest Kick-Off, a day to spend with family & community.

Who: Fillmore’s Summer Fest Kick-Off, Grillin in the ‘Mo is produced by The Village Project, in collaboration with the Bayview YMCA, Western Addition Family Resource Center, Bi-Rite Markets, The Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco Rec & Park, Hamilton Recreation Center, MoMagic, The Bayview Newspaper, The Fillmore Center Apartments, Cathedral Hill Plaza, Nia Soul, St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, Booker T. Washington Community Center and SOMARTS. This project is partially funded by the Dept. of Public Health. A special thanks to President London Breed, District 5 Supervisor, State Assemblyman, David Chiu, San Francisco Travel & Whole Foods for your continued support in helping us to build a stronger Fillmore! At this year’s celebration, we will honor the SF Fire Department for 150 years of service to the City of San Francisco.

Adrian Williams is Executive Director and founder of the Village Project, a service organization focusing on education and cultural enrichment programs for youth and their families in the Western Addition. The Village Project produces family events, including last year’s 10th annual Kwanzaa Celebration (Dec. 26 – Jan 1), “A Senior Moment – A Senior Prom for the 50+ and most recently, Mardi Gras San Francisco Style/ Fat Tuesday in the Fillmore. “In keeping with our mission of strengthening families and community, we will continue to partner and produce these quality events, which serve to connect the neighborhoods and families of San Francisco”, stated Ms. Williams.

NOTE: The Village Project will sponsor its 10th all day Summer Enrichment Camp, starting June 6th. The camp is free, and is located at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church, 2097 Turk Street. About the Bayview Y

The YMCA has long been at the forefront of providing quality, free or low-cost programming for youth and families. Their programs are run by caring, experienced staff with a focus on youth development principles: safety, relationship building, skill building, community involvement, and meaningful youth participation. The Bayview Hunters Point Y has been the co-sponsor for the San Francisco Kwanzaa Celebration, A Senior Moment & Grillin’ in the Mo’.


The goals and objectives of the Western Addition Family Resource Center (WAFRC) are to provide services that empower families and build community. We provide services to many families involved with the Department of Human Services and aim to strengthen families’ capacities for healthy development and self-sufficiency. The

WAFRC has established a strong community presence which has translated into a multitude of families receiving services.

People’s Park, Berkeley

Music spills out from all corners of Berkeley during the annual Berkeley World Music Festival happening in People’s Park as well as venues all over Telegraph Avenue.

Join and celebrate Bay Area’s multi-cultural tapestry in song, dance and craft. Talented musicians have prepared a wonderful party. Adding to the festivities are the local folks running colorful community and artisan booths. 

A wonderful mix of outdoor & intimate performances in or in front of Telegraph Ave cafes to Amoeba Music’s acclaimed concert in People’s Park with village arts ‘n activities await you.

Enter Berkeley’s World Crafts Bazaar and you enter their local culture. Where artisans, musicmakers, and selected local merchants with ties to music or world culture, and community intermingle.

There are African sculptures, Tibetan prayer flags, village handicrafts;  African kalimbas & gourd rattles, designer tote bags,  and even a honey bee farm, create a vibrant market and fun stroll against a backdrop of music.

Visit the Kids Zone face painting, chalk drawing & more. Balloon twisting & Bubble making may pop-up anywhere.

2016 Haight Street Fair

Haight and Ashbury, San Francisco

The annual Haight Ashbury Street Fair brings thousands of people to Haight Street between Stanyan and Masonic to shop over 200 outdoor vendors including food, green businesses, local artists, clothing, crafts, non-profits and more.

The fair features live music on two stages, a variety of foods, a festive atmosphere and a chance to to dance down Haight Street on a sunny afternoon.

picnicOff the Grid: Presidio Picnic

The Presidio, San Francisco

Off the Grid hosts a full season of Picnic at the Presidio from 11 am to 4 pm every Sunday through the fall at the Main Parade Ground Lawn.

Get ready for yummy offerings available for purchase from San Francisco’s favorite eateries and food trucks, a lively atmosphere and picnics on the lawn with a view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Though we don’t know the details for 2016 yet; in past years, they’ve offered Mimosa and Bloody Mary drink kits, an onsite DJ, classic picnic amenities like bocce ball, as well as game rentals and activities from Sports Basement. Blankets and Adirondack chairs are available to rent for a complete picnic experience.
